With an area of about 11,000 sq km, this artificial lake is the largest in South Asia.
Actually, Kaptai upazila of Rangamati district in the Chittagong Hill Tracts is a land of natural beauty.
The lake wears different looks at different times.
In 1956, the then government of Pakistan constructed the Kaptai Dam on the Karnafuli River for a hydroelectric power plant. As a result, 54,000 acres of agricultural land in the Rangamati district was flooded and this Kaptai Lake was created.
The lake covered with dense fog.
However, it was opened for tourists in 1962.
Although artificial, this lake is surrounded by the boundless beauty of nature.
To enjoy Kaptai Lake from very close to the water, one can rent an engine-driven boat.
Every year thousands of tourists from home and abroad visit Kaptai Lake to enjoy the natural beauty.
