Visiting Minister of International Department of the Communist Party of China Liu Jianchao on Monday said his country is committed and is working with Myanmar on how to improve the situation there to facilitate return of the Rohingyas.
"China is committed and we are working with them on how to improve the situation," he said during a call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban office.
PM's press secretary M Nayeemul Islam Khan briefed the reporters after the call on.
He said that Liu mentioned that the Rohingya issue is complicated and it continues there internally.
"Even the Myanmar government does not have the position to implement any plan (regarding this issue). The civil war situation has turned into a complex issue due to the conflicting situation (in there)," he said.
He also said that China realises that Bangladesh is affected due to the Rohingya issue and they highly appreciate that Bangladesh is supporting the Rohingyas on humanitarian grounds.
The press secretary said that the prime minister sought Chinese support to resolve the Rohingya crisis quickly.
"It has already been six years of the influx of the forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals to Bangladesh. Bangladesh is now very much worried about Rohingya crisis due to the uncertainty in solution," she said.
Hasina also said that this situation is very much frustrating and worrying for Bangladesh.
"It's a special message (from myself) to convey to the Chinese president (to resolve the Rohingya issue)," she said.
She also requested the minister to pay special attention to the matter.
Regarding Sheikh Hasina upcoming visit to China next month, Liu said it would further strengthen the extraordinary friendship between the two countries.
"This visit will further cement our relationship," he was quoted as saying.
The press secretary said Liu was overwhelmed with the unprecedented development of Bangladesh.
The Chinese minister said that his country is interested to enhance cooperation between the two countries in science, technology, innovation and artificial intelligence.
Referring to the global economic situation he said that even the Chinese economy is sluggish.
He mentioned that last year the growth was 5.2 percent and the first quarter of the running fiscal witnessed 5.3 percent growth.
"We have to work more and so do Bangladesh," he said.
Liu said that China at one stage of development witnessed a sluggish economy. In those days technology and science was not much advanced to tackle the situation.
"So we have suffered a little bit more, it was tough for us to tackle that situation. Fortunately Bangladesh would be able to tackle the situation with smart technology, AI and innovation," he said.
He put emphasis on enhancing party to party cooperation.
He also said that peace and stability of the region is important for them.
The Chinese minister underscored cooperation in economy, investment and party to party relations.
