Mosharraf Hossain Rubel was in the ICU a few days ago due to a serious illness. Rumors of his death started circulating in the cricket community. In the end, this left-arm spinner passed away on Tuesday (April 19) at 5 p.m. after a three-year battle with cancer. Rubel was taken to the United Hospital in the capital when his condition rapidly deteriorated. However, doctors at the hospital declared him dead. Let us reflect back on Rubel's major achievements as a professional cricketer in his remembrance.
Mosharraf Hossain Rubel's International Cricket Career Overview
Mosharraf Rubel made his international debut in a bilateral ODI series against South Africa in March 2008.
His last international appearance was in 2016, when he was called up abruptly for a series against Afghanistan and England. Before this series, he was out of intetnational cricket for more than eight years. Rubel played five One-Day Internationals for Bangladesh from 2008 to 2016. He was included in the national side as a slow left-arm orthodox spinner. Therefore, his primary responsibility was to provide service with the ball.
In his short international career, Mosharraf Rubel took four wickets. He appeared in three One-Day Internationals against South Africa, as well as one each against Afghanistan and England. Former South African international Alviro Petersen was his first international victim. Afghanistan's Nawroz Mangal, Hashmatullah Shahidi, and Mohammad Nabi were his other three victims. Rubel's best bowling figure was 3/24 in a bilateral series against Afghanistan in 2016. He was instrumental in helping Bangladesh win the ODI series against Afghanistan by a margin of 2-1.

Rubel made his professional debut in the 2021/2002 season and played his last competitive match in February 2019. Mosharraf appeared in 112 first-class matches, 104 List A games, and 56 T20 matches during his career. He is one of only seven players to take over 300 wickets and score over 3,000 runs. Rubel had 392 first-class wickets at a 29.03 average. 9/105 was his best bowling performance. Besides, he had two centuries in the longer-version format.
Mosharraf took 120 wickets at an average of 30.48 in List A cricket. In the one-day format, his best bowling figure was 5/57. In addition, Rubel had 60 wickets at an average of 19.60 in T20 cricket. Mosharraf's best bowling figure was 4/9 in the twenty-four format. In 2019, he won the BPL title with the Comilla Victorians.
Aftermath
Rubel was diagnosed with a brain tumor in March 2019. He later recovered after expensive treatment at Singapore's Mount Elizabeth Hospital. Rubel was even spotted training with the ball after recovering from illness. However, the old tumor reappeared last January, and chemotherapy was resumed. He had 24 chemotherapy treatments in all. The most recent occurred on October 11 at United Hospital. Rubel's condition worsened, and he was admitted to the hospital on April 19, but doctors confirmed his death there.
Mosharraf Hossain Rubel had a successful career as a professional cricketer, particularly on the domestic circuit. He didn't last long on the international stage. However, Mosharraf gave his all every time he wore the Bangladesh shirt.
