The 21st Young Painters' Art Exhibition has started in the capital. The fifteen day long art expo was inaugurated on July 14. On the opening day the best young artists of 2017 were officially named and awarded. Total eight awards were delivered in five categories. Amongst them four categories relate to best craftsmanship in four distinct sub-categories of artistry-Fine Art, Painting, Sculpting, Printmaking. Under the fifth category four honourary awards were delivered. The best Fine Artist has been named Sagar Chakraborty from Manikganj. He received one lac taka. The best in Painting, Sculpting and Printmaking are Pradeep Saha, SM Shah Anisuzzaman Farooki and Shwapan Kumar Sana. Each of them got seventy-five thousand taka. All of them save Pradeep study in University of Dhaka. Pradeep is a student of Fine Arts in Rajshahi University. The honourary award winners got fifty-thousand taka each.
The jury panel included KMA Kaium, Chandra Shekhar Dey, Saidul Haque Juwis. Initially after calls for submissions one thousand nine hundred and seventy-six artworks were submitted by seven hundred and eighty seven young artists. Of them, four hundred and twelve artworks by three hundred and eighty artists have been selected for display and for the final competition.
In the jury panel for selecting the best artworks were artists Abdul Mannan, Tarun Ghosh, Bimanesh Chandra Biswas and Anisuzzaman.
The young artists expo was started in 1975 one year after the founding of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. In the first edition juror of the present panel Chandra Shekhar Dey came out as the winner. In the second edition contemporary renowned artist Shahid Kabir became the winner.
