'Kalo Megher Bhela', an Impress Telefilms' cinematic venture made from renowned poet and writer Nirmalendu Goon's story and the directorial debut of the writer's daughter Mrittika Goon- was released on July 26. The film has been released on two multiplexes of the capital- Star Cineplex and Blockbuster Cinema on its first week. Directed by Nirmalendu Goon's daughter Mrittika Goon, the movie has been made on the issue of child labor. It has been produced with grant from the government.
Speaking of her very first directorial venture, Mrittika informed that the movie revolves around two of its central characters- the mother and her son. Actor Runa Khan played the role of the mother, while Apan from theatre troupe-Pidim has played the role of her ten-year old son named Dukhu.
The story portrays the life of railway carrier and child labor Dukhu, who carries luggage of passengers in the station. However he is not ready to be toiled like animals as it would be seen that he denies carrying big sacks on his shoulders. His and his mother's life, and their eternal struggle is portrayed in the film.
Mrittika Goon claims that the story of 'Kalo Megher Bhela' grabbed her attention in her very childhood when she had first read it. When she was in class six she first got the opportunity to read the novel and eventually got lost in her imaginary world surrounding it. Since then she had been nurturing her desire to make a film on it and in 2015 she got her chance as the government approved grant for the film. She also focused on the aesthetics of the novel, such as the hundred year-old jungle of Barhatta as mentioned in the novel will also be seen in her film.
The screenplay of the movie was done by late Faruk Hossain. Maximum of the shooting was done in Nirmalendu Goon's ancestral village Barhatta in Netrokona district and the rest of the part was shot in the slum areas of Kamalapur Railway Station, Pubail and Tejgaon. A trailer from the movie has been surfaced online and got critical acclaim for its overall appeal and artiste's performances, as well for Mrittika's directorial debut.
