The first list of Cannes selections for 2019 has already been revealed. More names will be revealed as the countdown continues and yet in the very first list a Bangladeshi co-production has found its place. Directed by Amirul Arham the film is titled 'Social Business.' Amirul's film has figured in the list of top ten documentaries selected for the Cinema Positif Award 2019. Apart from documentaries the award is for fiction films and first feature films. Awards for all these three categories will be handed over on the final day of this satellite festival titled The Festival du Cinéma Positif, May 23. The festival as a part of Cannes will start from May 16.

Apart from Amirul Arham's French-Bangladeshi production five documentaries made in France, one made in US-Spain, one in solely USA and one in Argentina have been selected for the category of documentaries. In the fiction films category 13 films and in the first-feature films category 12 films are to contest in the festival. Each year the festival focuses on a particular theme. This year the festival looks at 'Social Justice' and different but positive ways of perceiving and approaching future challenges of the world. The screenings are scheduled in theaters and on an open-air venue during the Cannes festival.

Amirul Arham's previous works include-A Banker for the Poor, The Devil's Water, The Lost Souls of Bangladesh and more. His first poetry collection 'The Drenching in the Rain' was published in Dhaka in 1998 followed by the Bengali-French book 'The Shadow of the Sea in your Eyes' in 2013 by Paalam Publications.
